Government
Authority in the religious life of the Oblates of St. Joseph is fundamentally a gift of service
patterned on the authority of Christ, who "came not to be served but to serve" (Mk 10:45).
Authority is a service to God by means of faithful adherence to the Church and to the charism
of the Founder and of the Congregation authentically recognized by the Church. It serves as a
point of unity and a pastoral service to the confreres, to whom it offers religious and spiritual
guidance. By reason of their dedication to the common life, all confreres take upon themselves
the responsibility of promoting the healthy exercise of authority by their personal cooperation, by
actively taking part in consultations, and by conscientiously voting in the election of superiors.
