7th Pastoral Lette of the Bishop of Acqui

never be in want: qui dat pauperi, non indigebit" (Prov. XXVIII.
            27) and consider how the Holy Father adds: "that his liberality
will not be a harm for him, but a gain; because he who gives to
the poor lends to God; that is why almsgiving was given the
            greatest reward".
Therefore we hope that you, dearly beloved, will vie with
generous ardor in favoring such a pious and holy work; and it is
greatly consoling to think that your zeal for the glory of God and
the salvation of souls will be a sure sign of your predestination
            to the heavenly beatitude.
Finally, we exhort you, venerable brothers and dearly
beloved, to double your prayers for the exaltation of Holy
Mother Church, and for the prosperity of the Sovereign Pontiff
Leo XIII, that despite his advanced age, he may continue with
the most tireless solicitude to propagate the reign of Jesus Christ
among the peoples. Pray also for our August Sovereign, for the
Royal Family and for the authorities of the State. Do not also
forget Us before God, and we promise, as is our duty, to do the
same for you, and with all the affection in our heart we bless
you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy
            Spirit.

            Acqui February 8, 1895.

                                  GIUSEPPE Bishop
            Pietro Peloso, priest, secretary
