When our hearts feel harsh and angry, let us draw

narrow, like that of people who would like everyone
to be like themselves. True holiness must be gentle,
supple, universal, multiform. It must extend to all individuals, it
must adapt itself to all states and all conditions and not limit itself
within the confines of a sort of goodness that is exclusive and
fashioned our way, the kind that is not in accordance with the
