In 1687, the first mission pueblo was initiated ny the Augustinian friars. Two years later, a church was built in the mission.

In 1698, the Church of Nuestra Senora del Rosario was founded. But it was only in 1776 that it became a parish. But due to the destruction of the church and exodus of priests caused by the revolution, the parish was left without a priest. It was only in 1910, that a priest was given to attend to its spiritual needs.

With the arrival of the first OSJ missionaries in 1915, the parish of Rosario was entrusted to Fr. Eugenio Gherlone, OSJ. In 1948 under the spiritual administration of Fr. Edoardo Meda, OSJ, the construction of a new church was initiated.

Through the course of time, the Congregation continues to serve this parish.
